Art History Class for High Schoolers!

What to Expect Each Week:

The First 30 Minutes:

Each class begins with a lively lecture using slides, timelines, pictures, and stories that bring art history to life. We’ll explore major movements, from the Prehistoric times to Modernism, and dive into the styles of iconic artists like Michelangelo, Van Gogh, and Pollock.

The Final Hour:
Get your hands dirty (in the best way) as we transition from theory to practice. Each class includes a creative project that ties directly into the history we’ve just explored.

Sample projects:

  • Recreate the famous "Creation of Adam" hands

  • Paint your own version of Starry Night

  • Channel your inner Pollock with bold splatter techniques

  • And much more!

The art projects are meant to take longer than class time, and students will need to finish outside of class.

End the year with a art show of the student's favorite projects, and a presentation on their artist or time period of choice! Parent's are invited to attend and enjoy their student's accomplishments.

Grading:

We will be using this book as a guide for the class. It has the step-by-step artwork and is "Presented in chronological order with a brief worldview description of the period, the art tells the story of the rise and decline of Western culture. Each chapter begins with scripture to inspire young Christian artists."
